what we believe

Ten Key Doctrines of the Faith

 1. Bibliology – The doctrines related to the Bible.
We believe that the Bible is God’s Holy Word, without error, and is the sole authority for faith and life. 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 2:15; Isaiah 40:8; 1 Peter 1:25; Romans 15:4; Matthew 24:35

 2. Theology Proper – The doctrines related to God the Father.   We believe that there is one God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  They subsist in unity, and also as three separate, distinct Persons all equally God.  God has always existed and He is the creator of the universe.  John 4:24; 1 John 4:8, 16; 1 John 1:5; Genesis 1:1; Jeremiah 10:12; Matthew 3:17

 3. Christology – The doctrines related to Jesus Christ.
We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, He was born of a virgin as both fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life, died to atone for the sins of human beings, was buried, arose from the grave, ascended into heaven and will literally return to earth.  He is the only way to God the Father.  John 1:1-2, 14; John 8:58; Colossians 1:15-20; Philippians 2:5-8; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:22; Romans 3:24; Galatians 3:13-14; 1 Corinthians 15

4. Pneumatology – The doctrines related to the Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the divine helper, counselor, comforter, and instructor.  His work is to reveal Christ, convict of sin, lead to repentance, guide believers, comfort, strengthen, and sanctify the soul.  He is a “seal” and “deposit” given to all believers at the point of conversion guaranteeing their inheritance.  John 16:7-8, 14-15;  Matthew 3:16; John 3:3-7; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 2 Corinthians 1:21-22; Ephesians 1:13-14; Romans 8:16; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 5:18; Galatians 5:16-25

5. Angelology – The doctrines related to Angels.
We believe that angels are creations of God, and that their ministry falls into four well-defined areas of work in cooperation with God. 1) Ministry to the Lord Jesus Christ. 2) Ministry to believers. 3) Ministry to the nations of the world. 4) Ministry to unbelievers.  Unlike mankind, they are unable to experience redemption.  Revelation 22:8-9; Genesis 19:1, 13; Psalm 91:11-12; Acts 10:3-6, 22; Matthew 28:2-3; Isaiah 6:2; Revelation 12:9; Luke 20:35-36; Matthew 18:10; Hebrews 1:13-14

6. Anthropology – The doctrines related to Man. We believe that human beings are special creations of God, made in His image.  All human beings are born sinners, and are in need of salvation having fallen through the sin of the first man, Adam.  We believe that life begins at conception and is sacred to God.   Romans 5:12; Genesis 1:26-31; Genesis 3; Psalm 51:5; Jeremiah 1:5; Psalm 139:13-18

7. Hamartiology – The doctrines related to Sin.
We believe that sin is disobedience to God.  Sin entered into the world through Adam, and all human beings are born into sin and choose to sin.  Sin separates all human beings from God until they receive forgiveness through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.  God desires for all Christians to forsake sin and become like Him – holy.  James 4:17; Romans 3:23; Genesis 3; Romans 6:23; Romans 5:12; Romans 6:1, 15

8. Soteriology – The doctrines related to Salvation.
We believe that Salvation is a gift through repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ and every person who truly is saved is eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ and will spend eternity in heaven, while those who die in their sins will spend eternity in hell, separated from God. Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-10; 1 John 5:11-12; John 6:37; John 14:6; Romans 8:1; John 10:27-29; Romans 8:38-39; 2 Thessalonians 1:9; Matthew 23:33, 25:46; Revelation 20:15

9. Ecclesiology – The doctrines related to the Church.
We believe that the church is a local body of baptized (by immersion) believers with the Lord Jesus Christ as the head.  The mission of the church is to carry out God’s command to preach the gospel and make disciples of all nations.  The universal church is made up of all true believers everywhere. Acts 2:41-42; Matthew 16:13-18; Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18; 1 Timothy 3; Hebrews 13:7,17

10. Eschatology – The doctrines related to End Times.
We believe in the literal return of Jesus Christ to meet all true believers, his church, in the clouds (Rapture).  Following the seven-year tribulation period we will return to the earth with Christ where he will reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords for a literal thousand years.  Following His kingdom reign will be the final judgement of Satan, then of all unbelievers… then, He will turn back to the Father “all things” so that God the Father “may be all in all.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 1 Corinthians 15:51-54; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12; Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 20:1-6, 11-15; Revelation 19:11-21; Daniel 9:24-27
